BNP forms 9-man probe commission
BNP has formed a nine-member 'mass enquiry commission' to investigate the October 11 train accident in Sirajganj.
Supreme Court Bar Association President Khandker Mahbub Hossain was appointed as its head, a party release said yesterday.
The commission was formed at the directive of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia as confusion was created among public minds following the government steps over the tragic accident that had left six people killed and over 100 injured, the release said.
Due to politicisation at all levels, an investigation under the government would not be impartial, the release added.
The commission will conduct investigation collecting facts and evidences.
It will follow existing rules and procedures and consult all concerned.
Former Secretary M Shahid Alam was made as member secretary of the commission. Other members of the commission are: Shawkat Mahmud, president of National Press Club, Prof ABM Obaidul Islam, general secretary of Dhaka University Teachers' Association, Prof Abdul Mannan Mia, former pro-VC Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, M Sanaullah Mia, president of Dhaka Bar Association, M Akhter Ali, ex-SP, Fahima Nasrin Munni, vice-president of National Women Lawyers' Association and Ismail Hossain Hasu, president of Sirajganj District Bar Association.
