At least 10 activists were injured in a factional clash of Rajshahi Jubo Dal in Kadirganj of the city yesterday.
Raihanul Haq, joint convener of the district unit of Jatiayatabadi Jubo Dal, was among the injured, witnesses said.
Police and witnesses said a Jubo Dal faction loyal to Nadim Mostafa, president of district BNP, was holding a meeting at a community centre with Rizvi Ahmed, joint secretary of BNP, as chief guest.
The clash ensued after 100-120 activists from another Jubo Dal faction led by Raihanul, loyal to former city mayor Mizanur Rahman Minu, were denied entrance to the meeting around 6:00pm, they added.
The conflicting groups vandalised the community centre and assaulted the rivals in presence of the chief guest and other senior leaders.
At one stage, Raihanul was beaten and dragged inside the community centre by the rival faction. He was rescued later after senior BNP leaders intervened, witnesses said.
Later, police took the situation under control.
Rajshahi BNP and its associate organisations are polarised over formation of district and city units of Jubo Dal.
