Relief Campaign for rural school children

Pizza Hut and KFC yesterday re-launched a relief campaign to provide meals to rural school children and pregnant women in the country.
The World Hunger Relief Campaign is a part of United Nations' World Food Programme that will continue till November 13. All the restaurants in the world of Yum International brand, the mother organisation of Pizza Hut and KFC, will take part in the programme.
"The programme, which we have been organising for four consecutive years, aims at reducing global poverty," said Akku Chowdhury, executive director of Transcom Foods, franchisee of Pizza Hut and KFC in Bangladesh.
"Under this programme, we request all our customers to add Tk 20 with their bills as a donation to support the campaign."
"Initially, we have a target to raise Tk 20 lakh during the campaign, and Transcom Foods will add the same amount with this that will help continue the spirit of ensuring hunger as the top of everyone's agenda," he said at KFC's Gulshan outlet in Dhaka yesterday.
Applauding the role of WFP, Chowdhury said, the organisation has shown that feeding at schools helps bring children into primary schools and keep them remaining there.
Micheal Dunford, deputy country director of WFP, said his organisation in partnership with the government of Bangladesh provide biscuits fortified with vitamins and minerals to one million poor children in food insecure areas.
"Each day 25,000 people die of hunger related issues worldwide. So we all should care for those who are living under the poverty line," Dunford urged.
Singer Shakila Zafar and Model Sharmin Lucky were also present.
