Hearing on charge framing against Paban, 5 others Oct 25

A Dhaka court yesterday fixed October 25 for hearing on charge framing against Khandaker Akhter Hamid Paban and five others in connection with exploding a cracker in front of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's Gulshan office on February 23 this year.
Judge Mohammad Zohurul Hoque of the Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court passed the order after scrutinising the case diary and other documents.
The court also directed officer-in-charge (OC) of Chatkhil Police Station in Noakhali district to submit report on execution of arrest warrant against Omar Faruk, former president of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) Chatkhil thana unit.
Omar Faruk has been absconding since case was filed against him.
Paban, son of BNP Secretary General Khandaker Delwar Hossain, now on a 15-day bail, was not present in the court yesterday.
Four other accused -- Golam Sabbir alias Shovon, Syed Hasan Rony and Pradip Saha, secretary of Sonaimuri upazila JCD and Dakat Babu -- are now in jail.
Of them, Shovon, Rony and Pradip Saha had given confessional statements saying that they had exploded cocktails in front of the BNP Chairperson's office as per Paban's direction.
In their confessional statements given before the magistrate under section 164 of the penal code, they said Paban had hired two other young men to carry out a mock bomb attack on himself, in an attempt to earn sympathy of the BNP high-ups.
