Steps taken to save Cox's Bazar beach
The government is taking different steps to protect Cox's Bazar beach and make the country's prime tourism spot a developed district, said State Minister for Housing and Public Works Abdul Mannan Khan yesterday.
Addressing a seminar as the chief guest, he also said a master plan is being prepared in this regard.
Urban Development Directorate of the ministry organised the seminar at Planners Tower in the city, marking the World Habitat Day 2010.
It is the duty of a government to ensure all civic facilities for the residents and different steps are being taken in this regard, he said.
Mannan said political stability is very important for the development of a country.
The team leaders of the consulting firms presented three PowerPoint presentations on the ongoing master plans of Cox's Bazar, Barisal and Sylhet.
The government took the initiative of preparing the master plan of Cox's Bazar town and the sea beach up to Teknaf in September, 2007, which is now going on, said project team leader Nurul Islam Najem in his presentation.
A 20-year Regional Development Plan (2010-2030) and Structure Plan is being prepared and a five to 10-year-long Action Area Plan will also be prepared under the master plan, he said.
Team leader Khondokar Neaz Rahman presented the master plan of Barisal while Zeenat Nahreen, consultant director of Sheltech, presented the master plan of Sylhet.
Director of Urban Development Directorate AZM Tazul Islam presided over the seminar.
