Seven sued for Saturday night's violence at RMC

Hasanul Haque Nipun, a member of the former committee of Bangladesh Chhatra League Rangpur Medical College (RMC) unit, yesterday lodged a case with Kotwali Police Station against seven people for their alleged involvement on Saturday night's clash on the campus.
The accused are Vice-Principal of Rangpur Medical College Dr Nur-un-Nabi Laiju, President of Teachers Council of the college Dr Mirza Nazrul Islam, and five BCL leaders of the new BCL committee.
Nipun alleged that Dr Mirza Nazrul Islam and Nur-un-Nabi Laiju instigated BCL leaders Ashfaqul Hque Pullok and Sanjoy Sarker and other BCL leaders and activists to launch an attack on the leaders of the former committee on Saturday night.
Officer-in-Charge of kotwali Police Station Haider Ali said he recorded the case and asked a sub-inspector to investigate the matter.
When asked, Dr Nur-un-Nabi Laiju said Nipun filed the case against them at the instigation Dr Delwar Hossain and his associates. He claimed innocence.
He said Dr Delwar held a meeting with former BCL leaders on the campus on Saturday night. Clash between the BCL groups took place soon after the meeting, he added.
He said Dr Delwar instigated Nipun to lodge the case against them to tarnish their image.
The Authorities of Rangpur Medical College (RMC) on Sunday suspended all academic activities until October 23 following clashes of two rival groups of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on the campus on Saturday.
College sources said the clash ensued between Tamim group and Pullok group over formation of BCL's college unit committee.
