PM to launch campaign for Sundarbans today
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the official campaign today for encouraging people to vote for Sundarbans at the final round of selecting seven natural wonders in the world.
She will launch the programme at the Prime Minister's Office at 11am.
The Sundarbans is now one of the nature finalists among the 28 World Heritage Sites. Of the sites, the New 7 Wonders of the Nature will be elected in 2011, said a press release of the environment and forest ministry.
The Unesco made the Sundarbans, the most densely populous tiger habitat, as World Natural Heritage in 1999 where thousands of tourists visit every year.
People from different countries have been giving vote in favour of their natural sites to be selected as one of the seven natural wonders.
All are requested to vote for the Sundarbans, the biggest mangrove forest in the world, for enlisting it as one of the new seven wonders of nature. The voting will continue till 2011.

Individuals, organisations and the government have taken different initiatives, including formation of a campaign cell at the environment and forest ministry, to get vote for the Sundarbans. The ministry has sent letters to different ministries, district administrations and media offices to make the campaign a success, it said.
The government will also set up mobile voting booths in the capital and at other metropolises.
Two programmes also have been arranged in Dhaka and Kolkata where many celebrities are expected to attend for the campaign.
The ministry has also requested to the post and telecommunications ministry to arrange free voting for the Sundarbans.
Over half a million people depend for their livelihoods by collecting honey, woods, fodders, fish and crabs from the Sundarbans.
