Barisal district administration primarily assessed huge damages caused by recent downpour.
However, the city corporation is yet to complete assessment of the damages caused by the three-day torrential rain, said Ranjit Das, secretary of Barisal City Corporation (BCC).
The affected upazilas are Uzirpur, Agoiljhara and Banaripara. Agriculture, livestock, fisheries and embankments have been affected in the district.
Chittaranjan Adhikari, Barisal district relief and rehabilitation officer, said five people died in the district in boat capsize and houses collapse during downpour.
According to primary assessments by the upazila nirbahi officers, 2,18,099 people of 37,9943 families affected and 27,784 houses, 60 educational institutions, 144 religious institutions, 255-kilometer embankments, 750.5- kilometer roads, were damaged fully or partially in 86 unions of 10 upazilas in the district.
The final assessment of damages will take at least seven more days, the district administration sources said.
