Clash over theft of mobile set, one killed, 10 injured
One person was killed and 10 others were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers over theft of a mobile phone at Jugia in Kushtia Sadar upazila yesterday.
The dead was identified as Gadon Fakir, 60, of the village.
Police said one Mahbub stole a mobile phone owned by one Saddam of the village on Friday night. As Saddam informed his relatives of the matter, they caught Mahbub and recovered the mobile phone set from his possession. They also beat up Mahbul.
Mahbub hurled abuse at Saddam's elder brother Siddik while he was passing by their house at around 9:30am yesterday.
Being informed, Saddam's family members and relatives rushed to the spot and attacked Mahbub and his men. Both sides locked in a fierce clash, leaving Saddam's uncle Gadon Fakir dead on the spot and 10 others from both sides injured.
A police team led by Kushtia Sadar Police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Asaduzzaman rushed to the spot and dispersed the clashing groups. The recovered the body and sent it Kushtia General Hospital for autopsy.
Sources said the injured took treatment at different clinics in Kushtia town to avoid arrest. No case was filed in connection with the incident as of 4:00pm yesterday.
Additional police have been deployed in the area to avert any further clash.
