Six die in separate incidents
Six people died in separate incidents in the districts of Dinajpur, Satkhira, Lalmonirhat, Manikganj and Netrakona yesterday.
Our correspondent from Dinajpur reports: Police yesterday recovered body of a young man from a river, 48 hours after abduction allegedly by activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Jubo League.
Police said at least 11 people were arrested in this connection.
The deceased was identified as Rabiul Islam, 23, son of Abul Kalam, Ulipur village under Dinajpur Sadar upazila.
Police said the body, bearing several injury marks, was recovered from Punerbhaba river of Ghugudanga village of the upazila and later was sent to Dinajpur Medical College and Hospital for autopsy.
Police said a group of miscreants led by Anwar Hossain, a member of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh, attacked Rabiul's sister Ismat Ara on Wednesday, critically wounding her for protesting the illegal occupying of their land in the area.
Later on that day, they abducted Rabiul and his brother-in-law Mizanur Rahman from Dinajpur Medical College Hospital when the two had gone there to admit Ismat.
Abdur Rashid, elder brother of Rabiul, filed a GD with Dinajpur Police Station in this connection that night.
On Thursday morning police rescued Mizanur Rahman from Karaibeel area of the upazila in critical condition.
Rashid filed a case with the police station yesterday accusing 16 people of the 11 arrested so far, said police. Of them 5 men were activists of Dinajpur unit Jubo League.
However, leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh and Jubo League denied the allegation.
Our correspondent from Satkhira adds: A college student committed suicide on consuming poison at village Ghashatia in Assassuni upazila yesterday.
The victim was identified as Nimai Chandra Dhali, 23, son Bishnu Pada Dhali of the area.
Police said Nimai was a student of Acharya Prafulla Chandra College in Bagerhat district. He committed suicide when the girl he was in love with refused to marry him recently.
Assassuni Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Fazlur Rahman confirmed the incident.
Our correspondent from Lalmonirhat reports: The bodies of a mother and her child were recovered from Teesta River at Votmari area of Kaligonj upazila in Lalmonirhat yesterday.
The victims were identified as Luna Begum, 22, wife of Abdul Malek and her only son Hasan, 4, of Uttor Musrot Modati village of the district.
Kaligonj thana police said Luna Begum with Hasan went missing since Thursday night.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Prodip Kumar of Kaligonj thana said they suspected the mother committed suicide with the child over family feud.
The bodies were sent to Lalmonirhat hospital morgue for autopsies.
Two separate UD cases were filed with the police.
Our correspondent from Manikganj adds: A man was killed by his son at Barundi village under Saturia upazila in Manikganj yesterday.
The victim was identified as Abdul Jolil, 48 of the area.
Police said Ibrahim attacked his father with sharp weapons following a family feud at around 1:00 am.
Abdul Jolil received severe injuries and died on way to hospital, police added.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Saturia Police Station Abu Taher Mia said the body was sent to Manikganj Sadar Hospital Morgue for autopsy.
The killer is on the run, said the OC.
Our correspondent from Netrakona adds: A boy was electrocuted to death on College road at Mohanganj municipality in Sadar upazila on Thursday night.
The dead identified as Bipul Mia, 15, son of Manuar Hossen of the area was a class nine student of Mohanganj Pilot High School of the area.
Police said the boy came in contact with a live wire at around 8:30pm while sitting on a roof of an under constructing house near his residence and died on the spot.
