Tickets on sale for Eid holiday-makers
Tickets are already open for sale for the home-bound passengers nearly two weeks ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, the biggest religious festival of Muslims.
A number of private transport service providers including Hanif Enterprise, Shyamoli Paribahan and S Alam Paribahan started selling “Eid ticket” yesterday from all of their city outlets while Shohagh Paribahan (pvt) Limited opened sale of ticket for its Volvo bus from Monday, their officials said.
Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC), the public transport service provider, will start selling tickets within next few days.
It will run 200 single and double-decker buses in addition to its regular service to different districts from Dhaka, Maj Quazi Safiq Uddin, Deputy General Manager of BRTC said.
At present, a total of 600 BRTC buses ply different roads across the country, 250 of them in the capital.
“…We'll withdraw 200 buses from the capital and will add them on Dhaka-Rajshahi, Dhaka-Comilla, Dhaka-Mymensingh and other inter-district routes,” Safiq Uddin said.
On the other hand, Bangladesh Railway (BR) and Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) will open special Eid service from September 5.
“The special service will be available from six days ahead of the Eid. People can book tickets from August 31 onwards,” said Bangladesh Railway's Dhaka Station Manager Abdullah Al Masum.
BR will introduce four special train services on Dhaka-Dewanganjbazar, Dhaka-Parbatipur, Chittagong-Comilla and Chittagong-Chandpur routes.
While tickets for regular services will be available as usual, passengers can also book tickets through Short Message Service (SMS) of their mobile phones, Masum said, adding that the special service will be available up until 10 days after the Eid.
The BIWTA, however, will offer its special service up until four days after the Eid festival.
As part of its preparation, BIWTA has taken steps to ensure uninterrupted power supply at the Sadarghat launch terminal during the period, its Chairman Abdul Malek Miah told The Daily Star yesterday.
Special monitoring teams, comprised of BIWTA officials, representatives of Vessel Owners' Association, department of shipping, representatives of different workers' organisations and law enforcement agencies, will work together to check any violation of rules and regulations, he said.
He also warned of stern action against carrying passengers on rooftops.
