Hearing on tribunal act today
The High Court (HC) yesterday adjourned till today the hearing on the writ petition challenging the First Amendment to the Constitution and some sections of the International Crimes (Tribunals) Act, 1973 under which the war crimes trial is being held.
An HC bench of Justice MA Wahab Miah and Justice Quazi Reza-ul Hoque fixed today for further hearing.
Two assistant secretaries general of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Muhammad Kamaruzzaman and Abdul Quader Molla jointly filed the writ petition on August 16.
The petion sought direction from the HC to stop proceedings of the International Crimes Tribunal and trial against them.
The International Crimes Tribunal is holding the trial of crimes against humanity and war crimes committed during the Liberation War. The trial will be held under the International Crimes (Tribunals) Act, 1973, amended last year.
Barrister Abdur Razzaq appeared for the petitioners, while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam was present for the government.
