Airport SI removed for rudeness to PM's staff
The immigration authorities yesterday withdrew one of its sub-inspectors from Shahjalal International Airport for misbehaving with a personal staff of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The incident took place at the airport when the premier's staff was seeing his boss's son Sajeeb Wazed Joy off to the US.
Witnesses said immigration activities remained suspended for about half an hour from 9:30am as people waiting for immigration clearance protested Sub-inspector Khaled Mahmud's misconduct.
An assistant superintendent of police (ASP - Immigration) said they withdrew Khaled from duty shortly after he was found guilty through preliminary investigation.
The ASP said when the premier's staff sought VIP privileges for Joy at the airport, Khaled declined to allow saying Joy would have to appear with his passport in person for getting the privileges.
Immigration officials said usually VIPs stay in the lounge, while their staff complete immigration formalities for them.
Joy however departed for the US on time, the officials added.
