Ambition and greed
Ambition leads to progress and prosperity, but greed leads to destruction.
I refer to a programme aired on BTV some days ago wherein the famed artist Shahabuddin was talking about Bangabandhu. At one point he mentioned that as a student he went to Bangabandhu seeking donation to sponsor an event at the Arts College. Tk. 400,000/= was needed for arranging that event. Bangabandhu replied that the Bangladesh government did not have that amount to spend.
But now the nation has become over ambitious and greedy resulting in so many inconsistencies in the country.
How can a person whose monthly income is only Tk.10,000/- ride a car, own an apartment? An investigation would reveal that the person in question has an unaccounted income of at least Tk.100,000/- a month. Perhaps the nation as a whole has forgotten the famous proverb- "Cut your coat according to your cloth."
The state itself is compelling people to pay more and more every day and people are adopting unfair means to meet their unfair demands. This is happening in the country due to greed. Anybody, whether he is a rickshaw puller, or a teacher, or a doctor, or an engineer or an MP has become greedy. We all want more. Well, there are exceptions, and they are the sufferers. May the Almighty help this nation to overcome the crisis.
