Killing of indigenous man sparks protest
Indigenous people of Panchbibi upazila of Joypurhat yesterday formed a human chain demanding arrest and punishment to the killers of an indigenous van puller on July 28.
They also brought out a procession and held a rally.
Locals said rickshaw van puller Gopal Pahan, 30, of Rambhadrapur village of Panchbibi upazila of Joypurhat was attacked by a gang on July 28 leaving him critically injured.
Gopal succumbed to injuries at Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital in Bogra on August 8.
Later a murder case was filed with Panchbibi police station.
Panchbibi upazila police said Gopal was murdered over personal enmity with villagers.
Protesting the killing, the indigenous people yesterday gathered in front Joypurhat Central Mosque and formed an hour-long human chain demanding arrest of the killers including one Hasan Ali.
At the rally, the speakers criticised police alleging their indifferent role in arresting the killers of Gopal Pahan.
