Majibur new envoy to Japan
The government has appointed AKM Majibur Rahman Bhuiyan, presently Bangladesh Ambassador to Bhutan as new ambassador to Japan, according to a foreign ministry announcement yesterday.
A career diplomat, Majibur belongs to the 1986 batch of BCS (Foreign Affairs) Cadre and joined the Service in 1989.
During his diplomatic career, he has served in Bangladesh missions in Tokyo, Tehran and New Delhi before taking up his assignment in Thimphu as ambassador.
Majibur has represented Bangladesh in various regional and international forums, including at the Saarc and OIC Summits.
Majibur graduated in Mechanical Engineering from Bangladesh University of Science and Technology (Buet). He also attended Foreign Service Programme in Oxford University, the UK.
Japan and Bangladesh have maintained friendly relations since February 10, 1972, through economic and technical cooperation, cultural exchanges and mutual visits.
Japan is the single largest bilateral donor to Bangladesh and also one of the major development partners, extending support to the efforts for its economic and social development.
The two governments signed an agreement on technical cooperation on December 8, 2002 to strengthen further mutual technical cooperation by consolidating its infrastructure and simplifying its process under a single umbrella framework.
