A sponsor's delight
Siddiqur Rahman's groundbreaking Brunei Open triumph has delighted Grameenphone, the leading mobile phone operator of the country.
"We are very happy and proud of what Siddiqur has achieved. He has proved his mettle at the professional-level and that really makes everyone pleased," said the company's head of corporate communications Tahmeed Azizul Huq.
"We would also like to thank the Kurmitola Golf Club because they told us that he was a genuine golfing prodigy. Since then we have found out that he's not just a talented golfer but also a gentleman," added Tahmeed.
"Golf is a prestigious sport and we have been associated with the game in Bangladesh for quite a long time now. We were always looking to back someone who has a lot of talent and is a potential winner and Siddiqur certainly was that person," he said.
The leading mobile phone operator of the country has been sponsoring Siddiqur since 2007 after his first win at the national-level.
"We had already agreed to renew his contract even before he left for the Brunei Open," said Tahmeed, who added that they always respected the contract, which is worth 8 to 9 lakh taka per year approximately.
"He gives some of our employees golfing lessons and is a really nice person whenever he works with us," he said.
Siddiqur had previously mentioned that the Grameenphone's sponsorship has helped him develop his skills and turn professional.
