BNP activist killed in bomb attack
An alleged BNP activist was killed in a bomb attack at Gopalnagar in Gangni upazila in Meherpur Thursday night, nine hours after the killing of a BNP leader.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Bariq, 40, son of late Roice Uddin of the village. Local BNP leaders claimed Bariq was a BNP activist.
Police recovered Bariq's body yesterday morning.
Police said Bariq went out of home Thursday evening after getting a phone call at about 8:45pm.
Locals found Bariq's body yesterday in a bush in the village.
Amirul Islam, acting officer-in-charge (OC) of Gangni Police Station, told The Daily Star Bariq was killed in bomb attack. The bomb exploded near his abdomen. Two eyes of the victim were also gouged out and marks of stabbing were also found on the body, said the acting OC.
“Initially we suspect extra marital affair is the reason for the attack. But more investigation is needed,” he added.
Bariq was married and a father of a three-year-old son.
Azizul Islam, organising secretary of Sholotaka union BNP claimed Bariq was a BNP activist.
Masud Arun, former BNP lawmaker in Meherpur-1, also claimed Bariq was their party activist.
ANOTHER BNP ACTIVIST KILLED
Criminals on Thursday slit the throat of BNP leader Afaz Uddin, 45, at Amdah in sadar upazila in Meherpur. Afaz was president of Mahajanpur union BNP and former member of Mahajanpur union parishad (UP) in Mujibnagar upazila.
BNP demonstrated protest in Gangni upazila and Meherpur town yesterday.
