<i>A family loses everything </i>
She was the last resort of help for her ailing parents, as the family fully depended on her income. Now that she is gone, her family sees dark days ahead.
Beauty Akhter, 19, who was allegedly killed and then thrown from the eight-storey factory building of the Vertex Garments Ltd at Kalwala Para on Friday, did not want to get marry just to help her parents.
“She was a son to me, not a daughter. Our four-member family depended on her income alone,” Beauty's father Abul Kalam told The Daily Star at his Mirpur house yesterday.
“Several proposals came to me for her marriage but she didn't want to marry. She used to say, if I get married, who will look after the family,” a weeping Kalam said.
Beauty's father is suffering from heart disease, ulcer and gastric problems while her mother Hasina Begum is also suffering from several diseases.
“I just want punishment of those who killed my daughter, I don't want any compensation,” Kalam, who is a street vendor, said.
Hasina, who fell unconscious two times looking at the photographs of her daughter, said Beauty was the third among her four daughters and always thought about the family.
Recently, beauty was thinking to quit Vertex Garments Ltd as her line in-charge Jharna Begum was torturing her, Hasina said.
Meanwhile, main accused in the case Jharna Begum, was taken on a three-day remand yesterday, officer-in-charge of Mirpur Police Station Kazi Wazed Ali told The Daily Star.
Earlier on Friday Beauty's father Kalam filed a murder case accusing five persons including Production Manager Mithu. Police have yet to arrest others.
Nazrul Islam Malum, factory manager of Vertex Garments, said the garment authority is also investigating whether the incident was a murder or a suicide, adding they too want justice and will assist police in the process.
Osman Gani Talukder, managing director of the factory, said the victim's family would get Tk one lakh in compensation from the group's insurance to which all the workers of the factory are entitled.
The factory that declared Friday and Saturday as general holidays will open today.
Meanwhile, Beauty was buried at the Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals' Graveyard on Friday.
