20 injured as villagers clash in Habiganj
At least 20 people were injured, four of them hit by bullet, in a clash between two groups over a disputed land at village Borhanpur in Nabiganj of Habiganj district yesterday afternoon.
Of the injured, 13 were admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital while three to upazila health complex.
Locals said, one Ashique Miah sent his people for tilling paddy field at the village yesterday morning. But his rival Khaled and his men forced away the labourers from the cropland.
As some of the villagers went to ask Khaled about the matter, he alongwith his men locked in an altercation with them.
At a stage over a hundred supporters of both groups engaged in a clash with lethal weapons. All of a sudden, Khaled's men opened fire at their opponents. The incident left at least 20 injured.
Those admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital include bullet hit-Ali Amzad, Abdul Hannan, Alif Uddin and Humayun. The others are Hashim Ullah, Asabur Miah, Hasanul, Abdul Matin, Mumin, Zaber, Ashraf Ali, Sonor Miah and Mishu Ahmed.
