20 hurt in factory fire

At least 20 people were injured and 10 warehouses burnt as a fire broke out in a particleboard factory at Madanpur-Haripur of Bandar upazila in Narayanganj yesterday.
Office-in-Charge Harun-ur-Rashid of Bandar Police Station said the fire originated from the sparks of a crashing machine in the factory around 7:00pm and soon spread in the adjacent area.
The fire damaged stored goods and equipment in the warehouses of Star Particle Board Mills Ltd, an associate company of Partex Group of Industries.
Fourteen fire engines were trying to douse the flames as of filing of this report at 1:00am.
However, at least 20 workers of the factory were injured while trying to douse the flames with fire-dousing equipment of the factory.
Of the injured Amanullah, 35, Rahim Uddin, 30, Abul Khair, 40, Shahnur, 20, Russell, 20, Nuruzzaman, 20, Kamal, 25, Nur, 26, Ali Hossain, 26, Shafik, 30, Polash, 27, along with few others were given first aid at the upazila health complex.
From the spot, Muhammad Abdus Salam, director (admin and finance) of Fire Service and Civil Defence, told The Daily Star around 1:00am that over 100 firemen were trying to get the blaze under control.
