Family finally buys trader's freedom
Abductors freed Chuadanga trader Mawla Mondol on Saturday night two days after his abduction.
Sources said the victim's family bought his freedom for a handsome amount.
According to Mawla's family members, the abductors at first asked them to come to a spot at Paradkhanpur in Harinakundu upazila in Jhenidah district at 8:00 pm. But after sometimes, they again told them over cell phone to go to Pakhimara, two kilometers away from Paradkhanpur area.
“We went there as instructed by the abductors and found Mawla standing under a tree at about 9:30 pm,” said one of the relatives who took part in rescue process.
The captors handed over Mawla to his family members there in exchange of a 'handsome' amount, he said.
A gang abducted Mawla, 45, from his house at Parlakhmipur village in Alamdanga upazila in Chuadanga on Thursday night.
On Friday night, an unknown caller phoned Mawla's daughter Roksana and demanded Tk 2 lakh for his release of.
The criminals also warned not to seek police help if they want to see Mawla alive.
Contacted, officer-in-charge (OC) of Alamdanga police station Sikdar Moshiur Rahman said they heard about release of Mawla but had no such information of buying freedom.
Nobody even filed any case, the OC said.
Earlier on Saturday, the OC, however, told this correspondent that they were trying to rescue the abduction victim.
