Abul Kashem, superintendent engineer of Public Works Department, is still in a critical condition although the doctors operated on his head.
Kashem had to be admitted to the intensive care unit of Square Hospital with a severe head injury, after the pickets vandalised his car in front of Aziz Cooperative Supermarket at Shahbagh around 9:30am during Sunday's dawn-to-dusk hartal.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina directed the health minister to bear all the medical expenses of Faruque and Sumon, who sustained burn injuries after the pickets set fire to their private car near Moghbazar rail gate.
The PM gave the directive after the health minister visited the injured at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital yesterday noon.
Khandaker Abu Talha, a consultant of neurosurgery department of Square Hospital, said, “We have conducted a serious operation on Kashem's head Sunday evening. But he is not out of danger until 72 hours pass.”
Samanta Lal Sen, director of Burn and Plastic Surgery unit of DMCH, said the condition of Faruque is still critical as he sustained severe burn injuries.
Faruque sustained 60 percent burn injuries while Sumon 10 percent burn to his body, hospital sources said.
BCS PWD Engineers' Association yesterday condemned the attack on engineer Abul Kashem and demanded exemplary punishment to those involved in the attack.
