Physiotherapy students continue strike
On the seventh consecutive day of the hunger strike under the banner of Bangladesh Physiotherapy Students' Union (BPSU), the law enforcers prevented the protesters from burning an effigy of the health minister yesterday.
More than 200 students have been staging hunger strike since June 21 demanding steps to establish Bangladesh College of Physiotherapy.
The students said they brought out a silent procession on the Dhaka University campus covering their mouth with black cloths. They said police snatched the effigy of Health Minister Dr AFM Ruhal Haque when they tried to burn it.
They said at least 50 students have fallen sick due to continuous hunger strike under the sun and rain. Of them, 25 are receiving treatment at different hospitals, including the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
A group of teachers on Friday met the health minister, who could not tell them the specific time to begin construction of the college.
