2 indigenous men killed
Two indigenous young men were gunned down by their rivals at Bogapara village in Dighinala upazila of Khagrachhari at about 5:30am yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Barisha Chakma alias Bariji, 28, son of Lungyaja Chakma of Chatakchhara village and Shushil Tripura alias Kusum, 25, son of Jonadhan Tripura of Jamtali village in the upazila.
Dighinala police said police and army men recovered the bodies and sent those to Khagrachhari Adhunik Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
Sources said Barisha and Shushil were members of Tatindra Lal and Sudhasindhu led-Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samiti (PCJSS), Dighinala upazila unit, which is also known as the PCJSS-reformists group.
Quoting the villagers, Subhash Chandra Pal, officer-in-charge of Dighinala Police Station, said both Barisha and Shushil were collecting toll here for the last few days.
While asked Organising secretary of PCJSS (Tatindra) group Sudakpor Tripura identified the deceased as his party men but he denied the allegation of extortion.
He said both of the members went to Bogapara two days back to form union level PCJSS (Tatindra) unit.
Superintendent of Police of Khagrachhari Abu Kalam Siddique said the killings might be the result of a conflict between the two PCJSS groups over controlling the area.
Reached over phone, PCJSS vice president Ushaton Talukdar denied any involvement of mainstream PCJSS in the killings saying, “We don't possess any arms since Santu Larma signed the CHT peace accord and surrendered all arms.”
