Muggers shoot hotelier

Muggers shot and injured a hotelier at Tikatuli in the capital early yesterday.
Shafiqul Islam, 28, owner of Orchid Restaurant at Shahjadpur, was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital with bullet injuries to his back.
Shafiqul said that when he was on way to his Badda residence in an auto-rickshaw around 3:00am, a gang of around seven armed muggers intercepted the vehicle near Tikatuli Rapid Action Battalion office. Two of them got into the auto-rickshaw and asked the driver to keep running the vehicle.
At Kakrail intersection the muggers tried to snatch his bag containing Tk 72,000. One of the muggers shot in his back and took away the bag.
The muggers then left him in Badda and fled in the vehicle.
Shafiqul took the auto-rickshaw from Sayadabad Bus Terminal around 2:45am after he came from his village home in Comilla.
