Road crashes kill 15
At least 15 people, including two physicians, were killed and 20 others critically injured in road accidents of Dinajpur, Sirajganj, Mymensingh and Bogra yesterday.
Of the dead, Dr Yousuf Ali and Dr Taiyabur Rahman were senior professors of surgery and gynaecology departments at Dinajpur Medical College and Hospital, reports our correspondent from Dinajpur.
Witnesses said the accident occurred when the Rajshahi-bound microbus carrying seven physicians collided with a truck coming from opposite direction at Kanagari village under Ghoraghat upazila.
The injured were rushed to Ghoraghat upazila health complex where the microbus driver succumbed to his injuries.
Of the wounded, the condition of Dr Shamsul Alam Chowdhury was critical, health complex sources said.
Road communication between Dinajpur and other parts of the country was temporarily snapped after the accident.
In another incident, four people, including two of a family, were killed in a head-on collission between a truck and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Ghurka area under Rayganj upazila, reports our Sirajganj correspondent.
The deceased were identified as Montu Kundu, 70, and his son Meghnath Kundu, 35, CNG driver Abdus Salam, 20, and Bahar Ali Akondo, 35.
The bodies were sent to hospital for autopsy.
Police seized the truck but its driver managed to flee.
A case was filed with Solonga thana in this connection.
Our Mymensingh correspondent adds: At least two people including a madrasah teacher were killed in two separate road accidents in Sadar upazila yesterday, Our Mymensingh correspondent adds.
The victims were identified as Shamsul Alam,50, and Idris Ali,30.
Police said the accident occurred when a Dhaka-bound bus hit the vehicle, which Shamsul was riding on his way to the madrasah on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway.
Idris died as a Mymensingh-bound bus ran over his bi-cycle in the area at around 10:00am.
Police recovered the bodies and sent them to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
Separate cases were filed with Kotwali police station.
Our correspondent from Bogra adds: At least two people were dead and five others wounded, in a head-on collision between two trucks in Ghoga bridge area under Sherpur upazila, reports our correspondent from Bogra.
The deceased were Nazrul Islam, 35, a cattle trader, and Mahfuz, 40, a truck driver.
The injured were Lal Mia, 25, Monirul, 26, and three others unidentified.
They were rushed to Sherpur health complex.
In another accident, some four people were killed and five others injured as a mirobus fell into a roadside ditch in Sadar upazila on Cox's Bazar-Chittagong highway yesterday, reports UNB.
The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Police said the accident happened when the Cox's Bazar bound micro-bus plunged into a roadside ditch after its driver lost control over the vehicle, leaving a man dead on the spot.
The injured were admitted to Sadar Hospital where three of them succumbed to their injuries.
A case has been filed.
In another accident, an elderly man was killed and three others were injured in a road accident on Thakurgaon-Panchagarh highway in front of BDR gate under Sadar upazila yesterday, reports our correspondent from Thakurgaon.
The victim was identified as Mosharaf Hosain, 60, hailed from Tangail.
Witnesses said the accident occurred when a Panchagarh-bound truck suddenly braked hard, causing the passengers to be tossed onto the road. It left one dead and three others injured.
The injured were rushed to Thakurgaon sadar hospital.
