Pabna Drama Circle observes 29th anniversary
Pabna Drama Circle, one of the leading cultural organisations of the district, has launched a 12-day programme marking the 29th anniversary of the organisation. A colourful rally was brought out from Pabna Town Hall yesterday morning. The 12-day programme kicked off last Sunday at the organisation's office premises.
Hundreds of cultural and social activists from different organisations and students participated in the rally that paraded the main streets of the district headquarters. Participants carried banners, placards, festoons, flags and masks at the rally. The slogan was “Courageous youth is our pride.”
Veteran politician of the district and also a leading cultural personality, Md. Saidul Haque Chunnu; secretary of Ekushey Book Fair Celebration Committee, Pabna, Zakir Hossain; secretary of Pabna Shammilito Shangshkritik Oikko Jote, Ashraf Hosain Rabi and secretary of Pabna Press Club, Utpal Mirza led the procession.
As part of the programme, competitions for children were held yesterday. Youngsters from different institutions participated in painting, singing and dance competitions on the occasion.
The 12-day programme would wrap up on June 24. A discussion, cultural programme and play would be staged on the concluding day. Pabna Drama Circle activists informed that for the last 29 years the organisation has been working to generate mass interest in social issues and raise public opinion against injustice through cultural activities.
“Pabna Drama Circle was formed on June 13, 1981. The organisation has staged 38 plays so far. Most of the plays highlight social and political issues,” said Pradip Shannal Gopal, president of the organisation.
Of the group's 38 productions, “Prohelika,” “Gono Nayak,” “Shajano Bagan,” “Ashami Haajir” and “Ojha” have been widely acclaimed.
As a member of the Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation, Pabna Drama Circle had organised divisional drama festival in Pabna in 2001.
