Wife stabs husband to death
A wife stabbed her husband to death in the Maniknagar area under Sabujbagh police station in the city yesterday.
The man was identified as Mohammad Hasan, 42, a day labourer and resident of a slum at Comilla Potti of Maniknagar.
Police arrested Monwara Begum, 32, in this connection and seized the Boti (kitchen knife).
Quoting neighbours of Hasan, Sub-Inspector Matiur Rahman of Sabujbagh police station told The Daily Star that the couple engaged themselves in a quarrel at around 9:30am. At one stage of the quarrel, Monwara stabbed her husband with the Boti.
Locals rushed Hasan to the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared him dead. DMCH sources said Hasan sustained a deep injury in his chest.
Monwara told police that she did not intend to kill her husband, just hit him out of anger.
She said they have been married for six months. They were locked into the quarrel as her husband could not take care of her, she added.
Monwara, a sweeper at Victoria Club in Motijheel, said she bears most of the expenses of her family.
