Bus takes another life
A student of Siddheshwari Girls' College was killed by a recklessly driven bus at the city's Khilgaon yesterday.
Kamrunnahar Juthi, 21, a first year honours student at English department, was crushed under the wheels of the bus around 4:00pm.
Passers-by rushed injured Juthi to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where doctors declared her dead around 4:50pm.
Police with the help of locals managed to arrest the driver. It was a Salsabil Paribahan bus.
Juthi was on her way to coaching centre by rickshaw. The killer bus hit her from behind, witness said. “The reckless driver did not stop his vehicle, rather smashed Juthi's waist as she fell down on the ground.”
Her body was kept in DMCH mortuary, as her father was yet to reach Dhaka.
Juthi's mother Shamsunnahar fainted at her Motijheel TNT Colony resident hearing the news of the accident. She was not informed of the death as of 8:00pm.
“Where is my daughter? I want to go to hospital to see what happened to my darling,” Juthi's middle-aged mother could utter these words before she fainted for the second time.
Juthi's father Mohiuddin Ahmed Babul, who was visiting his village home in Mymensingh, was also not informed of the death.
“We just asked him to come sharp and told that his daughter was injured,” said Shimu, a relative of Juthi.
“The reckless driver brought an end of her dream of becoming a professor,” Ripa, her classmate, said as tears rolled down her cheeks.
Juthi, who was the eldest of two siblings, secured GPA 5 in SSC but closely missed the score in HSC.
Earlier on May 27, a Buet student was killed by a madly driven bus at Azimpur in the capital.
