Ruet provost sells articles from hall storeroom illegally

Student Welfare Adviser of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (Ruet) allegedly sold articles worth about Tk 2 lakh violating the rules on Saturday.
Guards and employees of Shaheed Selim Hall said five to six unknown men came to the hall in the morning and entered the storeroom along with office assistant Abdul Barek.
They took the goods, including 31 big dishes, and loaded them onto a truck with the help of Barek.
Gardeners Rajob and Azam said when they asked hall office assistant Barek about the matter, he told them that the things were sold at the directive of Student Welfare Adviser Asraful Alam, also the provost of the hall.
As the news spread on the campus, Prof Ashraf called the gardeners to his office and took their signature on a list of sold items, said one of the guards, requesting anonymity.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Sirajul Karim Chowdhury told the correspondent that the incident astonished him. He said the university authorities will soon form a committee to investigate the incident. But no such committee was formed as of 6:00pm yesterday.
Contacted, Prof Ashraf said he was not present on the campus during the incident. He declined to give details, saying the authorities will investigate the matter.
