Lalon Memorial Festival in Jhenidah
A two-day long Lalon Smriticharan Utshab (memorial festival) in Jhenidah began on May 12. Around two hundred Lalon enthusiasts from Kushtia, Magura, Alamdanga, Chuadanga and Harinakundo attended the event.
Akbor Shai and his family members arranged the festival at their village home in Dudrajpur under Kaliganj upazila in Jhenidah. The utshab has been observed here for the last 26 years.
Upazila Chairman Anwarul Azim Anar inaugurated the event on Wednesday. Upazila Vice-chairman Rashed Shamsher and Tithi Rani Bhadra were present as special guests.
Thousands of people from all walks of life enjoyed the programme. Twenty Lalon devotees rendered songs of the bard. Of them Nasir Fakir, Younus Shaijee, Akbar Ali, child artiste Alpana and Reshma Akhtar enthralled the audience with their performances.
Younus Shaijee said that he comes here every year on Baishakh 29 (according to the Bangla calendar).
Akbor, who arranged this programme, said that as a Lalon devotee, he attends most of the Lalon utshab. He added that he would continue with this endeavour as long as he lives. He has mentored a number of disciples and has been fascinated with Lalon songs since his school days.
