Corruption main barrier to nation building
Eminent jurist Dr Kamal Hossain yesterday said corruption is a violation of human rights and the main barrier to establishing the nation as prosperous and freeing it from discrimination.
"Corruption violates human rights. It is the key obstacle to developing the country and freeing it from discrimination," Dr Kamal said at the inaugural session of the 12-day long eighth human rights summer school at Koitta in Manikganj.
"Corrupt persons have also created obstacles to using of the national resources for welfare of the common people," he added.
Empowerment through Law of the Common People organised the event at the Proshika Human Resource Development Centre in Manikganj. University Grants Commission Chairman Prof
Nazrul Islam and Justice KM Sobhan were present at the inaugural ceremony.
"We formulated our constitution with a view to making the nation free from corruption and discrimination. But unfortunately, we could not yet establish our nation that way," he said.
Prof Nazrul Islam said a "university anti-corruption commission" is required to remove corruption and irregularities from the public and private universities.
