Two Huji men remanded
Two brothers, arrested on suspicion of their involvement with banned Islamist outfit Harkat-ul-Jihad (Huji) early Wednesday, were placed on a three-day remand yesterday.
Police arrested Quashem Billah alias Noman, president of Jatiyatabadi Olama Dal Habiganj pourasava unit, and Arif Billah, herbal medicine practitioner in Habiganj town, at their house at Purbo Pukra village in Baniachang upazila at around 3:00am.
They were produced in the Judicial Magistrate's Court, Habiganj, with a prayer for 10 days' remand the same day. After hearing the prayer, Magistrate Rajib Biswas yesterday granted three days' remand of the two.
Police officials told newsmen on Wednesday that they arrested Noman and Arif following a statement given by Huji activist Mizanur Rahman Mithu during interrogation at TFI cell in the capital.
Mithu was earlier arrested by Rab in connection with the killing of former finance minister SAMS Kibria. He also gave a confessional statement before a magistrate.
CID ASP Rafiqul Islam said Mithu told them during interrogation that Quashem Billah and his brother Arif Billah were with them at a Huji training camp in a hilly area at Dinarpur under Nabiganj upazila under Habiganj district.
