Nepal wants to use Mongla, Ctg ports
Nepalese Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal yesterday requested Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to allow his country use Mongla and Chittagong ports.
He made the request when he called on Hasina at Bangladesh House in Saarc village.
In reply, Hasina said she had already talked to Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the issue during her India visit in January this year.
She said Nepal, with huge potential of producing hydropower, could benefit through exporting electricity to Bangladesh.
During the meeting, the issue of regional connectivity featured prominently in the discussion.
The two prime ministers also discussed various issues of bilateral interests, including expansion of trade and business between the two countries.
Press Secretary to the PM Abul Kalam Azad later briefed the reporters.
Foreign Minister Dipu Moni, State Minister for Environment and Forests and Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister M A Karim, among others, were present during the meeting.
