International Dance Day celebration in Sylhet
The Sylhet divisional chapter of Bangladesh Nritya Shilpi Sangstha staged a colourful dance performance last Sunday night on the occasion of International Dance Day. The presentation was held in a packed hall and received hearty applause from the audience.
The day's programme began in the morning with a procession in the city. Dance artistes from different organisations joined in with colourful festoons, decorated placards and masks.
Veteran activist Anil Kishan Sinha, president of the divisional chapter of the organisation, chaired the brief discussion and reception to the Ekushey award winner Laila Hasan. Sylhet Mayor Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran was the chief guest at the evening function. Kathak dancer Saju Ahmed was the special guest. Different dance organisations of Sylhet honoured Laila Hasan with flowers and crests. Aminul Islam Chowdhury conducted the function held at the auditorium in Rikabibazar, Sylhet.
Group dances by Sylhet Nrityashoilee, Nritya Rang, Shilpangan, Nrityasram, Manipuri Art and Cultural Centre from Moulvibazar, Nrityangan from Srimangal and others from Fenchuganj, Habiganj enthralled the audience with 20 presentations. Through dance they presented themes like Baishakhi festivities, rice harvesting by rural folk, boat race, Liberation War and the Radha-Krishna love story.
