Show zero tolerance towards building code violators
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday reminded that the government would show zero tolerance towards those who will go for construction without following the building code of Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakkha (Rajuk).
She asked the Rajuk officials to be more careful and strict so none could construct building without respecting the building code.
Hasina gave the directives while chairing the first meeting of the National Disaster Management Council at Prime Minister Office (PMO).
“There will be no scope for building construction without following the building code,” the PM said adding, “Rajuk officials should be more careful and strict in this regard.”
Hasina emphasised creating mass awareness through mass media about earthquake. She also called for educating school and college students about the earthquake and how to deal with the post-earthquake situation.
“We have to inform mass people about the devastating impact of earthquake, we can take the help of mass media for this,” she said.
The prime minister mentioned the recent risky efforts by Bangladesh medical team comprising army and civilians in the earthquake-devastated Haiti and said their experiences will be helpful for Bangladesh.
“They performed their job in a risky situation and gathered valuable experiences for our country. We could utilise their experiences to prepare ourselves,” she said.
Hasina praised the Bangladesh medical team for their tough jobs that they had performed smoothly and earned goodwill for the country.
Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Abul Kalam Azad briefed the reporters after the meeting.
Hasina asked the authorities concerned to complete the rehabilitation work in the Aila-hit southern districts before the coming rainy season to ease the sufferings of the affected people.
“It has been already late, we have to complete these works quickly,” she said.
Hasina asked to expedite the construction and reconstruction works on damaged roads and embankments and houses to rehabilitate the Sidr- and Aila-hit people.
On deployment of army personnel for rehabilitation works, Hasina said the preparations for rehabilitation should start by October and it must be complete by January.
She said in case of shrimp cultivation inside the embankments, the cultivators should use sluice gates or they should cultivate shrimps outside the embankments.
Later, a six-member delegation led by general secretary of Bangabandhu Ainjibi Parisad Adv Layekuzzaman Molla called on the prime minister at her office.
