Leaders of Citizens' Rights Movement (CRM) yesterday placed an 11-point demand to address the city's power and water crises.
They placed the demands at a press conference at the National Press Club yesterday.
While reading out a written statement, CRM Secretary General Tusher Rehman said production in different industries has been severely disrupted because of power crisis, retarding smooth economic growth.
Besides, city dwellers have to endure unbearable suffering due to power and water crises.
He urged the government not to assure people by only giving strategic speeches rather it should take effective measures immediately to address the crisis.
The demands include implementation of the government direction to shut air conditions from 7:00pm to 9:00pm, punishment to all the corrupt officials involved in the power sector, withholding metro rail and Padma bridge construction projects and investing their allocation for increasing power production, importing electricity form neighbouring countries and supplying water to the city from the river Meghna.
CRM Senior Vice President Maj (retd) Mahfuzul Haque, water scientist and researcher Dr Enamul Haque and environmentalist Nazimuddin were also present at the press conference.
