'Foil plots against govt by anti-democratic forces'
President Zillur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued messages on the occasion on the occasion of the Independence Day.
Zillur, in his message, has urged all to work unitedly imbued with the spirit of War of Liberation to expedite economic self-reliance and democratic advancement for building a happy Bangladesh for the next generation.
He termed the historic Independence Day as a glorious day for the Bangalee nation.
Zillur recalled with deep respect and paid homage to the martyrs of Liberation War, who made supreme sacrifices for achieving the independence in 1791.
The president also remembered with profound respect the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, four national leaders, valiant freedom fighters and organisers who made their dedicated efforts that accelerated the nation's great victory.
Zillur said without institutionalising democracy, overall development of the country is not possible. He said tolerance, fortitude and respectful to others' opinion are the pre-conditions for flourishing democracy.
He called for making the parliament as a centre of excellence for solving national issues through discussions.
The President expressed his hope that all irrespective of party affiliations will play responsible role in fulfilling the hopes and aspirations of the common people.
Meanwhile, Hasina, in her message, urged the countrymen to remain united and prepare themselves to foil all ill-designed plots against the government and the people by anti-democratic and anti-progress forces.
“The defeated anti-liberation, communal and identified reactionary forces are set to undo the democratic and development process of our beloved country, at a time, when our government had executed the verdict of Bangabandhu murder case and is going to start the trial of the war criminals,” she said.
She said the freedom has been earned through huge bloodbath and sacrifices of the people. It is a great achievement.
Hasina said to ensure that this achievement remain meaningful, the fruits of the great War of Liberation should be reached to every nook and corner of the country.
“It is by cherishing the true history of our War of Liberation close to our hearts, we would have to go ahead in achieving the objective of the “charter of change” by building Bangladesh free of corruption, mal-governance, terrorism, hunger and poverty,” she said.
She recalled with deep gratitude the great leader of the liberation struggle, the greatest Bangalee of all time, the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
She also paid her humble tributes to the four national leaders and the valiant freedom fighters who had led the war and fought against the Pakistani occupation army to free the beloved motherland.
The PM extended her sympathies to those who had lost their near and dear ones and were subjected to brutal torture and subjugation during the war.
Hasina recalled with gratitude Bangladesh's foreign friends who had extended their whole-hearted support and cooperation for the causes of the nation's liberation.
The Prime Minister said the present government has been striving hard to establish Bangladesh as poverty, hunger and illiteracy-free Digital Bangladesh by 2021, the golden jubilee year of the independence.
For the success of the noble endeavor, she called upon all people wherever they may be to join the government with their utmost sincerity, honesty and dedication.
“I am confident that Insha-Allah, with our united efforts, we would surely achieve our “Golden Bangladesh” as envisioned by the Father of the Nation,” she said.
