UP chairman leads attack on police station
At least nine policemen were injured as about five hundred people led by chairman of Dhala union parishad (UP) in Tarail upazila attacked a police station yesterday.
Police fired three blank shots to disperse the mob and arrested six attackers including the UP chairman.
Police and locals said the UP chairman on Tuesday night 'tactfully' handed over to police local AL activist Abdur Razzak, 45, along with a pipe gun.
The next day, he along with around five hundred brought out a procession and attacked the police station demanding punishment of Razzak.
The policemen injured in the attack were identified as SI Ibrahim Khalil, PSI Jainal Abedin, ASI Sirajul Islam, ASI Jahangir Alam, ASI Sujan Kumar Pandit, constable Baizid, constable Narayan Chandra Sarker, constable Hadis Uddin, and constable Nurul Amin.
Later police arrested chairman Sajedur Rahman Milton, Syed Abu Saem, 45, Shafik Ullah Mamun, 25, Nunu Mia, 20, Ful Mia, 20, and Bakul Mia, 28.
Syed Mannan Ali, officer-in-charge (OC) of Tarail said, the injured cops were given first aid.
SI Sujan Kumar Pandit filed a case with the police station against chairman Milton and 18 others and 250 other unidentified men.
