Road accidents kill six
At least six people were killed and 20 others injured in separate road accidents in Tangail, Chandpur and Kishoreganj yesterday.
UNB from Tangail reports: Three women, including mother and minor daughter, were killed and 15 others injured when a bus and a truck collided head-on at Gharinda in Sadar upazila yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Salma Begum, 26, wife of Abul Hashem of Deohata village in Mirzapur upazila, her three-year-old daughter Tanjima, and Rasheda Begum, 35, wife of Mizat Ali of Bagatipara Laxmanhati in Natore district.
Police and witnesses said the accident occurred when the Dhaka-bound bus from Joypurhat collided head-on with the truck at about 11:00am, leaving 18 people injured.
Salma, Tanjila and Rasheda succumbed to their injuries on the way to hospital.
Two of the badly injured were rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital while five others to District General Hospital.
Police seized the two vehicles, but drivers and helpers managed to flee.
A correspondent from Chandpur adds: Two people were killed and two others injured in a road accident in Chand Khar Dokan area of Chandpur Sadar upazila yesterday.
The dead were identified as tempo driver Imon Patwari, 20, and passenger Anis, 20.
The injured are tempo passengers Ayub Ali, 35 and Md Ali, 25. Ayub was taken to Chandpur Sadar Hospital from where he was shifted to Dhaka. Ali is undergoing treatment at Sadar Hospital.
Imon hailed from Shilondia Mothkhola in Chandpur Sadar upazila and Anis from Paschim Rajargaon area in Hajiganj upazila.
Police said Imon and Anis died on the spot when a Dhaka-bound passenger bus hit a tempo coming from Hajiganj on Comilla-Chandpur road at around 7:30am.
Police seized the bus and tempo.
A correspondent from Kishoreganj says: One person was killed and three others were injured in a road accident at Aliagori Aria under Kuliarchar upazila yesterday.
Locals said the accident took place on Bhairab-Kishoreganj road at 11:00am when a Kuliarchar-bound passenger bus hit a Ferojpur-bound Tomtom car, leaving Tomtom passengers Amanuddin, 25, son of Lalu Mia of Madobdi village under Kuliarchar upazila dead on the spot.
The injured were Helena, 35, Ripon, 16, Alamgir, 22. Of them, Helena and Ripon were rushed to Bazitpur Medical College Hospital in critical condition and Alamgir was given first aid.
