Trott fired up for first Test
England batsman Jonathon Trott all but confirmed his spot in the England side for the first Test against Bangladesh after scoring a sparkling 101 in their practice match against the A side at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium yesterday.
Trott's innings was the perfect riposte to Rokibul Hasan's similarly composed century on the first day. The lanky Englishman was perhaps slightly more cavalier as he carved out 14 boundaries to reach his century and showcase his class.
Trott added 69 to his overnight score of 32 before retiring on 101 made off 134 balls to give the other batsmen a go on a good batting track.
“It was a good pitch, but a bit difficult in the morning and we got through it,” said a confident Trott.
“Though it was a practice match, I hope to continue the performance in the Test match. With a little more net work hopefully I will reach top form for the first Test,” he hoped.
The 29-year old Trott is a relative newcomer at the international stage, but has already firmly established himself in the England Test side with a century on debut against Australia last August.
