BSMMU starts residency programme
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) has started its residency programme recently to increase the quality of doctors.
Residency programme is such a training course where the doctors will receive the training, which is mostly oriented to practical knowledge along with theoretical knowledge.
Some 147 doctors have joined the MD and MS courses at different departments under the programme in 2010 academic session.
At an orientation meeting of the students yesterday, BSMMU Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Pran Gopal Dutta said the residency programme has been started to make specialist doctors.
It is a skill-based and patient-oriented learning programme and there are many developed countries where this programme is recognised, he added.
Treasurer Prof Mohammad Moazzam Hossain, Pro-VC (education) Prof AKM Anisul Haque, Pro-VC (administration) Prof Mohammad Shahidullah were also present the programme.
Prof Mohammad Saiful Islam, dean of the faculty of surgery, presented a keynote paper on residency programme while Prof Abdul Jalil Chowdhury of medicine department conducted the programme.
