External force out to foil trial of war criminals
Workers' Party of Bangladesh President Rashed Khan Menon yesterday said an external force, coupled with the country's anti-liberation forces, is engaged in hatching a conspiracy to foil the trial of war criminals.
“The recent comment of Pakistani high commissioner has proved that an external force along with the country's anti-liberation forces is involved in a conspiracy to foil the trial of war criminals.”
Menon said this at a view exchange meeting of the 14-Party Dhaka city unit at Shaheed Asad auditorium in the city.
Earlier on Thursday, Pakistan High Commissioner Ashraf Qureshi after a courtesy call with Foreign Minister Dipu Moni said the war crimes issue was resolved through an agreement signed in 1974.
Terming the comment an undue interference in the county's internal matters, Menon urged the Pakistani government to seek pardon of Bangladesh for conducting barbarous military attacks on innocent Bangalees in 1971.
“The evil forces are out to plot a conspiracy to create disorder at different educational institutions across the country as well as hilly areas. BNP is patronising them on different lame excuses,” he added.
Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya, general secretary of Awami League (AL) city unit, said after the execution of the killers of Bangabandhu, the war criminals have realised that they would not be able to flee this time.
“Sensing the looming danger, the evil forces are trying to create unrest in the country one after one. The ethnic violence in hilly areas and killings of students at different educational institutes are the burning examples of this conspiracy.”
Bimol Biswas, politburo member of Workers' Party, said the trial of war criminals is a major challenge for the pro-liberation forces, adding: “We will have to move forward carefully to overcome this challenge.”
Abul Hossain, city unit general secretary of the party, presided over the meeting where Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal General Secretary Sharif Nurul Ambia, Samyabadi Dal General Secretary Harun Chowdhury, AL city unit Vice-President Mukul Chowdhury also spoke.
