Road crash kills one
A female pedestrian was killed and five others, including a three-year-old girl, were injured in a road accident on Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Kanchpur of Sonargaon upazila here yesterday.
Locals said the accident took place around 2:30pm when a Dhaka-bound bus of Onirban Paribahan from Comilla veered off the road as its driver lost control over the steering and dashed against the road-median, leaving a female pedestrian dead on the spot and injuring five others.
After hitting the median, it tumbled on a number of rickshaws and baby taxis parked by the road, sources said.
The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately. Of the injured, three were identified as bus passenger Kabir, 37, Sumi, 3, and baby taxi driver Yasin.
The injured were admitted to different local clinics.
Seven other vehicles including baby taxies and rickshaws were also wrecked in the accident.
Vehicular movement remained suspended for half an hour in the area.
Md Yunus Ali, OC of Sonargaon Police Station, said a woman was killed and five others were injured in the accident.
