Govt seems not honest to its promises: Larma
Parbatya Chhattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) leader Jyotirindra Bodhipriya Larma alias Santu Larma yesterday said they are losing confidence in the present government, as it is not serious about implementation of the peace agreement.
He urged the indigenous people to prepare for a fresh movement to realise their demands setting aside political differences.
“The present government says one thing and does another. In such a situation, we have no other alternative to movement,” the former guerilla leader said while addressing a meeting of the Mro Community at Tonkaboti, a remote village in Bandarban Sadar upazila yesterday.
Santu said the indigenous people must stay united to fight for their rights.
JSD President Hasanul Haq Inu MP, Gono Forum presidium member Pankaj Bhattacharya, Mro leader Ranglai Mro and PCJSS Bandarban unit President Sadhuram Tripura also spoke.
"The political party, which signed the peace accord in 1997, again came to power but it is not sincere at all to fully implement the agreement,” Santu said.
Santu alleged the political parties are now under the control of the opportunists. Though they say about emancipation of the oppressed people, they are busy making fortunes for themselves.
The PCJSS leader said now the question before the indigenous people is whether they will get involved in opportunistic politics or fight for protection of their life and property.
"We compelled the government to sign the peace agreement through struggle and we will have to force it again to completely implement the accord,” Santu said.
Several hundred Mro people from Sadar, Lama and Ali Kadam upazilas attended the rally at Tonkaboti, some 50 kilometres off Bandarban district headquarters.
