Court allows to quiz OC Rafiqul
A Dhaka court yesterday allowed the Criminal Investigation Department to interrogate former Officer-in-charge of Motijheel police station Mohammad Rafiqul Islam at the jail gate in the August 21 grenade attack cases.
Metropolitan Magistrate Nazrul Islam passed the order after the investigation officer of the case Abdul Kahar Akond, senior additional superintendent of CID, also the investigation officer, filed a petition on Monday.
The CID sought permission to quiz OC Rafiqul about the grenade attacks on an Awami League rally in Bangabandhu Avenue on August 21, 2004.
Rafiqul, also an accused of killing college student Kamrul Islam Momin, was sent to jail after he surrendered on October 16, 2005.
He was in charge of Motijheel police station when the deadly attack targeting AL President Sheikh Hasina, now the prime minister, took place.
Hasina narrowly escaped the attack but 23 AL leaders and workers were killed and over 300 maimed in the incident.
