Petroleum store gutted in Ctg: 3 hurt
Huge quantity of petroleum products and chemicals were damaged and five shops gutted in a devastating fire at a petroleum godown here yesterday.
Three persons Liakat Hossain, 18, Azad Rahman, 22, and Enamul Hoque, 30, who were working in the godown also sustained burn injuries while working at the godown.
They were admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
Sources said the fire broke out at the godown of Tara Chemical Industries at Ek Kilometre area near Bahodderhat around 3:00pm.
A large number of drums and tanks full of petrol, octane, diesel, kerosene and chemicals stored at the godown for sale went up in flames, they said.
Panic gripped the people in the area due to the blasting of the drums.
Five adjoining shops were also gutted as the blaze spread fast, they added.
Twelve fire units from five fire stations including Agrabad Head Quarters, Kalurghat, Nandankanon, Chandanpura rushed to the spot and were seen busy fighting the fire.
Additional Director of Fire Service and Civil Defence ABM Nurul Hoque told The Daily Star it took time to douse the flame as it originated from the petroleum products at the godown.
"We have managed to keep the blaze under control to avoid major destruction to the adjoining establishments," he said.
The reason behind the fire could not be known immediately, he added.
