Toxic medicine kills patient, 'doctor'
A patient died after taking an ayurvedic medicine prepared by a local practitioner in Tarash upazila of Sirajganj district on Friday night while the latter borrowed the same fate the next morning.
Habibur Rahman, 32, of Narateghuri village went to ayurvedic practitioner Moydan Ali, 45, of Baromazdakshmina village for treatment of his dysentery Friday afternoon but he fell seriously sick after taking medicine made by the practitioner, said family members of the patient.
He was taken to Tarash Upazila Health Complex where he died later on the night.
On Saturday morning, Habibur's relatives blamed Moydan for Habibur's death and threw a challenge to him to take the medicine to prove that it was 'not harmful'.
As Moydan Ali accepted their challenge and took the same medicine, he also fell sick in a short time. He was taken to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital where he died.
Habibur and Moydan died as a result of taking toxic medicine, said doctors of the two hospitals.
