Non-formal education to eradicate illiteracy stressed
Training officials to undertake an effective non-formal education programme through proper analysis of policy guideline will ultimately help eradicate illiteracy from the country once for all, speakers said at a seminar yesterday.
They also said that the government is determined to eradicate illiteracy from Bangladesh by the year 2014.
They were speaking at the inaugural ceremony of a five-day seminar to improve the skills of non-formal education officials in analysis of policy guideline at Tejgaon Non-formal Education Bureau auditorium in the city.
They further said the necessity of skilled analysers is immense in this sub-sector to build an institutional base of non-formal education.
The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, Non-formal Education Bureau, UNESCO and Sector for International Education and Development of Dhaka Ahsania Mission are jointly organising the seminar.
A total of 25 participants are participating ar the seminar.
Of them, three are from primary and mass education ministry, 17 from non-formal education bureau, five each from DORP, RIK, PIACT Bangladesh, ERAB and Prottya Sangstha.
Director General of Non-formal Education Bureau Rezaul Kader presided over the seminar while acting secretary of primary and mass education ministry Abu Alam Md Shahid Khan was present as the chief guest.
UNESCO Bangladesh Representative Malama Meleisea was present as special guest while Mission Executive Director M Ehsanur Rahman and UNESCO National Programme Officer Abdur Rafique also spoke.
